Lead Instrument Technician, Northside Hospital Cherokee

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assigns, monitors, and evaluates work.  Acts as a resource for assigned staff, and counsels staff as required.

 

Assists Supervisor in establishing performance standards and preparing performance evaluations.

 

Handles routine problems and complaints.  Refers other matters to supervisor.

 

Reports equipment malfunctions to Supervisor.

 

Prepares routine reports and maintains records of Surgical Processing activities.

 

Prints updated surgical schedules to identify additions or deletions.  Utilizes surgical schedule and physician preference cards to obtain supplies for scheduled surgeries.

 

Performs random inspections of completed surgical case carts to verify correctness of items and ensure sterility of packaging is maintained.

 

Performs the duties and responsibilities of the Instrument Technicians when not engaged in supervisory duties.

 

Provides care and/or service to patients undergoing surgical intervention without regard to age, race, or gender.  Care and/or service will be provided for neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

 

Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

Other duties as assigned by supervision.

REQUIRED

 

High School Diploma or equivalent Two years of surgical processing experience or two years as a surgical technologist. Demonstrated knowledge of instrument sterilization techniques. Basic computer skills.

PREFERRED

Certified Surgical Technologist OR Certified Central Service Technician.
