Summary:
+ The Lead Machine Learning Engineer will be responsible for leading the design of technical solutions, driving innovation in machine learning algorithms and methodologies, and collaborating closely with colleagues, clinicians, administrators, and researchers to deploy machine learning products that enhance patient care and outcomes. This role requires a strong background in machine learning engineering, a deep understanding of healthcare data, and a passion for driving positive impact in healthcare through advanced analytics.
Responsibilities:
+ Systems and Software Engineering: Leverage open-source tools and frameworks to develop ML systems and software applications. Design and implement scalable and modular software architectures, emphasizing maintainability and extensibility. Develop integrations with health system tools and systems for model deployment. Build software so that stakeholders can monitor ML models and associated systems to ensure operational integrity and performance. Maintain, implement and advance best practices as relevant for the ML engineering discipline. Independently lead projects from concept to execution, coordinating with other PennDnA teams, as needed.
+ Model Development and Implementation: Design, build, integrate, and deploy machine learning models and simulations for various healthcare applications. SME in domain.
+ Data Collection and Assessment: Work closely with data scientists and data engineers to construct robust and maintainable data pipelines. Ensure seamless data integration and flow that supports the scalability and efficiency of ML models and analytics platforms.
+ Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including data scientists, site reliability engineers, vendors, clinicians, administrators, researchers, and others to understand project requirements and develop solutions that meet organizational needs. This collaboration aims not only to advance healthcare technology but also to drive significant improvements in patient outcomes and operational efficiencies, demonstrating the tangible impact of our work. Provide subject matter expert review, guidance and consultation. Help set team’s direction, e.g. 5-year roadmap. Build relationships with PennDnA and client stakeholders, including senior leaders. Able to represent leaders in meetings.
+ Monitoring and Compliance: Designs and builds tools for active monitoring of models and ML applications. Maintain and optimize production models and applications. Actively monitor and evaluate the performance and compliance of analytical projects, ML models or research studies, to ensure they meet high standards of quality, effectiveness, and reliability. This role requires overseeing the integrity and ethical use of data, adherence to legal and safety standards, and the proactive identification and mitigation of any form of drift or deviation from expected outcomes. This position requires a consistent commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational and research integrity.
+ Continuous Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Look for opportunities to optimize the Data Science team’s processes and workflows. Contribute to development, maintenance and improvement of standards, processes and procedures.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
+ Bachelor's Degree is required. Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on machine learning or data science.
+ 5+ years' experience in machine learning engineering, with a proven track record of developing and deploying machine learning solutions in healthcare or related domains is required.
+ Proven track record of independently leading projects from concept to execution, coordinating with cross-functional teams, as needed, is required.
+ Master's degree is preferred.
