Responsibilities

 

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced and results-oriented Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Eastman Corporate Engineering team. This position will work with both local and remote design teams to lead the execution of Mechanical Engineering scope of work. As the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing the Mechanical engineering scope for various large capital projects during Pre-FEED, FEED and Detail Design phases to ensure their successful completion. Your expertise in Mechanical Engineering principles and practices, combined with your extensive experience in the chemical industry, will be crucial in leading a team of engineers and driving innovation in our organization.

Responsibilities:

 

Develop and implement project-specific Mechanical Engineering execution plan to ensure efficient and effective project execution Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including all engineering disciplines, project managers, Operations and Procurement, to ensure seamless project integration and successful project delivery Lead and manage the execution of Mechanical Engineering scope of work at the selected engineering service provider in all phases (Pre-FEED, FEED and Detail Design) Monitor and report actual progress and forecasting / check for discipline activities, including management of labor hours and delivered documents Lead the design and selection of stationary and rotating equipment, considering factors such as safety, reliability, maintainability, cost and schedule Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications and technical documents, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes and regulations Apply industry codes and standards relevant to the chemical industry, such as ASME, API, ANSI, and other applicable codes, in the design and evaluation of mechanical systems and equipment Oversee the procurement of mechanical equipment, ensuring adherence to project requirements and specifications Conduct thorough reviews and quality control checks to ensure compliance with design specifications and project requirements Utilize software tools and applications, such as Cesar, COMPRESS, SolidWorks, AVEVA Engineering or equivalent and other engineering design software, to support mechanical engineering activities and enhance project efficiency

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering field with focus on the chemical or petrochemical industry. Minimum of 5 years of experience as lead mechanical engineer with experience in large capital projects execution Ability to mentor and develop less experienced team members Good written, listening and verbal communication skills Proven experience in leading a project team of engineers, with excellent leadership and communication skills Familiarity with capital stage gate process and understanding of project execution. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose innovative and practical engineering solutions Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously Knowledge of safety regulations and standards related to mechanical engineering in the chemical industry Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus Open to travel as needed
