He manages the production of the mechanical team (and/or produces directly), is responsible for the work distribution for the mechanical discipline, for the checking of the design deliverables (technical specifications, equipment calculation notes, vendors technical comparison tables), and ensures that the deliverables related to the mechanical discipline are produced within time, quality and budget. He is part of the project engineering team, which is led by one Engineering Manager / Technical Coordinator.

For project execution:

The Lead Mechanical Engineer leads the team of mechanical engineers who have the following tasksProduction of calculation notes for sizing of equipment (such as TMH for pumps, discharge pressure for blowers, service air consumption, room ventilation flow rate, etc.)Preparation of equipment specification for inquiry, based on client specification, process requirements, equipment environmental information, calculation notes and installation conditions. Definition of performance guarantees for the equipment.Checking suppliers’ offers (compliance with the inquiry), seeking for technical optimization of the offersPreparation of the technical comparison table with the suppliers’ offers, technical ranking of the offers, and participation to the selection of the supplier together with the engineering manager, project buyer and project managerPreparation of the technical specification to be included to the purchase orderFollow up and review of the engineering documentation provided by the supplier once purchase order has been placed.Preparation and regular updates of the equipment listManagement of the interfaces with the other disciplines (design office, electricity, process, hydraulics…) for all matters related to the equipment under his/her responsibility.Depending on the project and the progress, the Lead Mechanical Engineer can be directly in charge of the tasks above.

In addition, the Lead Mechanical Engineer is directly responsible for the following, on the project assigned to him/her:
