Potential Internal Candidate Identified

The Lead Medical Communication Specialist works under the direction of the Clinical Manager to develop and enhance the role of Medical Communication Specialist. Leads the training of current and future staff on new programs, assists in the development of efficiency and quality improvement initiatives, and co-design strategic resolutions aimed at producing proficient and cost-effective results. The Lead Medical Communication Specialist performs the duties and responsibilities of the Medical Communication Specialist on a regular basis to maintain competency. The Lead Medical Communication Specialist maintains proficiency in the use of all software applications associated with Patient Coordination HUB to trouble shoot applications barriers and enhance growth and development within the Medical Communication Specialist role. Collaborates with the Clinical Manager to address and remove barriers in workflow design and applications.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Fosters collaborative relationships in and between unit staff and management in order to enhance team

effectiveness.

2. Assists in the review of Medical Communication Specialist schedules and staffing.

3. Works alongside employees, providing direction and training on specified activities.

4. Works collaboratively with management to assist in the implementation of organizational initiatives

specific to the Medical Communication Specialist role.

5. Contributes competencies for the general Medical Communication Specialist role and partners with

management to incorporate these competencies into unit specific job skills.

6. Maintains competencies as a Medical Communication Specialist.

7. Maintains proficiency and problem-solving skills in all software applications.

8. Serves as a liaison and advisor to training programs in the Gundersen Service Area.

9. Perform other job-related responsibilities as requested.

10. Demonstrates organizational skills and effective use of time by prioritizing to complete work within

established time frames in accordance with unit standards/ expectations.

11. Communicates effectively by providing clear and concise verbal, written and telephone communication

with a strong customer service focus. Demonstrates professional accountability by adhering to the

Gunderson Vision and Mission Statement and by demonstrating Gundersen Health System’s core values

and complying with the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and our own confidentiality standards.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED High School Diploma or equivalency

Work Experience:

REQUIRED 3-4 years’ work experience as a Medical Communication Specialist or closely related experience. Experience demonstrates progressive increase in responsibilities.

License and Certifications:

Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification
