Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Manager Medical Imaging the Lead MRI Tech provides guidance to staff technologists with regard to technical procedures and other activities related to MRI operations. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and imaging services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital�s mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.
Responsibilities:
Oversees technologists and procedures at the site.
Ensures that all staff is practicing universal precaution techniques.
Provides in writing any recommendations as to promotions terminations performance appraisals overtime disciplinary action vacations and other related personnel issues to the Manager Special Imaging.
Can operate and navigate all pertinent IS software related to job functions such as LifeChart and PACS
Assists in the training of new employees.
Ensures proper use of equipment.
Provides input on clerical staff assigned to the section.
Assists with the maintenance of necessary records statistics and reports.
Reviews and updates medical and technical quality assurance data. Indicators should be reviewed monthly under the guidance of the Chief Radiologist and medical physicist.
Notifies the Manager Medical Imaging in writing of any issue which had or will have an effect on the MRI operations i.e. protocol changes additions or eliminating procedures.
Coordinates with clerical staff to enhance patient throughput for the best patient quality care.
Maintains a clean and safe working environment for the staff and patients. When needed work with the Environmental Services and/or Facilities Department.
In conjunction with the appropriate hospital personnel coordinates issues relating to the entry and exit of the section for patients.
Maintains an inventory of equipment with identification numbers.
Assists in the ordering of supplies.
Required to attend monthly staff meetings and attend MRI monthly Safety / QA meeting with Brown University Health affiliates.
Reviews and updates the procedure manual under the supervision of the Manager of Specialty Imaging.
Works with supervisors/managers to coordinate/resolve issues for regulatory compliance.
Coordinates the scheduling of patients and technical workflow in MRI unit.
Keeps informed of developments and trends in the field of MRI imaging.
Reports service needs to the Manager Medical Imaging as necessary and follows up with any corrective action taken.
Assists in the maintenance and development of systems and procedures for quality control to ensure optimal diagnostic results.
Develops a schedule for protocol review (clinical/research) to be performed in partnership with the hospital�s medical direction. Protocol review should be performed annually. Implement changes and educates staff as necessary.
Develops a file of active research protocols with description of scanning protocols management of data and billing procedures.
Recommends new and/or improved procedures and/or equipment in writing to the Manager Special Imaging.
Participates and/or conducts in-service sessions for staff technologists and other hospital auxiliary personnel.
Makes necessary adjustments in daily schedules to accommodate changes in patient volume.
Maintains all equipment in good working condition and notifies the Manager Medical Imaging of any equipment malfunction.
Understands and practices principles of safety with regards to strong magnetic fields as those generated by MRI systems.
Performs other related duties as assisted and/or required.
