lead nuclear fuel mechanical design engineer
Job Description SummaryThe Lead Nuclear Fuel Mechanical Design Engineer - Will be responsible for the mechanical design, development, and analysis of nuclear fuel products. This role requires collaboration with sourcing, fabrication and quality, thermal-mechanical analysts, material scientists, fuel experts, and nuclear/thermal-hydraulic analysis engineers to assure product perform within licensed and GNF performance expectations in a fast-paced environment.

This position is based at our headquarters in Wilmington, NC. Must be willing to relocate (relocation assistance provided) if not already local.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

Create mechanical design solutions to support the development of new products & design modifications to improve existing productsUnderstand the fabrication processes for component and assemblies, the post fabrication transportation and handling and the customer application requirements for fuel products and servicesPrepare drawings and specifications for new and existing fuel designsIdentify, document and lead the resolution of technical risks within each projectProvide well written, well organized documented engineering analyses to assure design adequacyPerform design reviews and production readiness reviewsAddress emergent customer and manufacturing issuesWork closely with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost reduction activitiesDesign test procedures and perform testing to address component and assembly adequacyDevelop procedures and work to improve engineering productivityPrepare and present technical data to internal and external customersAssist and provide support to the team technical leader and functional manager to plan, status and execute projectsPerform work with high quality in accordance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standardsEffectively communicate and collaborate activities with other team members on technical issues

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited college or universityMinimum 5 years of mechanical design experience

Desired Qualifications:

Expertise in drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and 3D CAD) and analysisMaster’s Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or universityPrior nuclear Industry knowledge / experience (preferably BWR or SFR reactors)Experience in FEA Analysis using Ansys or LS DYNAProven track record of problem-solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentationStrong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignmentsWorking knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, welding, statistics and finite element analysisWorking knowledge of casting development/productionA self-starter willing to take initiativesAbility to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available informationStrong customer focus and clear understanding of nuclear industries

The base pay range for this position is $86,000-122,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 3/21/2025.
