Summary The purpose of the position is to supervise and provide nursing direction/care to the youth in treatment at the Youth Regional Treatment Center (YRTC), including providing clinical guidance to a team of employees providing inpatient adolescent substance use, behavioral health and co-occurring disorders care. Position reports to the Director of Nursing. Responsibilities Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Registered Nurse Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Provides direct residential nursing services, including 1) screens patients and elicits patient history; 2) assesses needs and refers for care; 3) coordinates medications with pharmacy; 4) supervises medication administration for licensed and/or certified staff; 5) operates medical equipment; 6) records observations, assessment and intervention on patient's medical records; and 7) provides and assist in the provision of emergency treatment. Assists with the program planning for the nursing activities. Develops nursing policies and procedures. Participates in quality improvement activities for nursing. Participates in meeting accreditation standards. Ensures medical/nursing documentation and activities for admission, during treatment, and discharge are completed, including coordinating medical/dental appointments. Provide delegation and oversight of nursing duties to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Psychiatric Technician, and Social Service Assistants on a rotating shift schedule. Ability to attend outdoor recreational/cultural activities in extreme to cold/hot weather. High levels of stress may be experienced in relation to work with residents with substance use, behavioral health, and other co-occurring disorders. Emergency and/or crisis situations may require physical effort to restrain patient, and occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify for the GS-11 grade level you must have either education or experience as described below. Experience - Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assess the medical history and conditions of patients, in providing nursing care, and in advising on health care needs, all with full consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social and physical factors; determine an appropriate course of action based on assessment of patient's symptoms and behavior; administer medication based on the knowledge of expected therapeutic effects, side effects and drug incompatibilities; provide and assist in the provision of emergency treatment; and delegate nursing duties to team members. OR Education - Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement.
