Summary

Position Highlights:

The lead Pathology Office Assistant, under direct oversight of the AP Material Management Supervisor, is responsible for performing and overseeing daily task assigned to Office Assistants (9) within the department. Duties include: triaging phone calls, receiving and logging of materials (slides, blocks and reports) received for review; filing, archival and retrieval of blocks/slides; accessioning of cases into the pathology application (PathNet); handling request for additional material (for review cases) and send out requests to refer patient material or records to outside facilities; follow up, ensuring receipt of reports for any and all send out cases; return of materials to contributor in a timely fashion and coordinating the filing and archiving of all pathology, bone marrow and cytology reports; faxes, scans and/or distributes all pathology reports and reference laboratories results to the physician’s and medical records. This position will also manage the expert consult process to include: receipt of expert consult materials, registration of non-patients into Soarian, accessioning into Pathnet, and return of materials and reports. In addition the lead will be assigned supervisory and administrative tasks, such as developing staff schedules, handling time-off requests and supporting the pathologist and clinic staff.

Credentials and Experience:

High School Diploma/GED required. 4 years of experience in pathology laboratory setting, knowledge of pathology processes and workflow. Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot workflow issues, adapt positively to change, and work collaboratively with a wide variety of personalities. Must possess effective verbal and written communication.
