Lead Power Electronics Engineer

About the Team

Dyson has an opportunity for a lead power electronics engineer to join the highly successful Power Electronics and Energy Storage group.

The Power Electronics and Energy Storage group is a multidisciplinary team responsible for the development of the electronics hardware behind Dyson Digital Motors and power-dense Li-Ion battery systems. Dyson Digital Motors are small and light, yet extremely powerful; they power the next generation of handheld vacuum cleaners as well as the revolutionary Dyson hair care range. Dyson battery management systems provide the high-power energy sources required to power the category-leading cord-free and robot products.

Our multi-disciplinary team is growing in the Philippines and we would like to hear from you if you are looking for a challenging and rewarding career in Power Electronics design.

About the Role

The Lead Power Electronics Engineer role involves specification, design, and test of the power electronic circuits for new and pioneering consumer or home appliance products within the Global Power Systems – Power Electronics & Energy Storage Team. Initially, the focus will be on sustaining design activities to ensure continued production. As your experience within Dyson grows, you will work in multi-disciplinary global project teams to define, architect, and deliver the next generation of electronic hardware for Battery Management Systems and Motor Drives. At times you may work with Dyson’s Technical Research teams to investigate and develop novel electronics to support and realise new product ideas.

The day-to-day responsibilities may include,

Lead a team of Power Electronics Engineers, or project work package, to develop and deliver integrated electronics solutions within project timelines.

Lead and manage projects to design and develop the next generation of electronic hardware for Battery Management Systems and Motor Drives.

Lead design reviews, technical risk analysis, and investigations to proactively solve complex problems.

Identify and communicate risks and lead the design changes to mitigate them.

Mentor and coach junior team members.

Support design critiques and reviews and provide recommendations for positive improvements.

Ensure design solutions meet product specifications and functional requirements (performance, reliability, DFM, cost and compliance with international regulatory standards e.g. IEC, UL and EMC).

Verifying design decisions through simulation, test and analysis of the results.

Liaise and collaborate with various Dyson engineering teams (Mechanical, Compliance, Software, Manufacturing, Test, etc) across the UK and South East Asia to ensure product and system requirements are satisfied and drive product development through to production.

Produce detailed engineering materials including design schematics, PCB layouts, tolerance analysis, design notes, FMEA, failure analysis reports, and technical review documents.

Support device selection and characterisation for different power electronics applications.

Follow the full life cycle of the product development process.

Contribute towards and support power electronics process improvement activities.

Sustain existing designs in production to ensure continued product supply.

The projects are supported by engineers at all levels, and they provide a great opportunity to develop and

improve your skills and knowledge of power electronics. There is scope to make a positive impact

and contribution to a range of new and exciting innovative products.

Requirements for the Role

Degree qualified in electronics engineering or a comparable discipline.
