Lead Precision Machining Engineer (Starlink)

LEAD PRECISION MACHINING ENGINEER (STARLINK)

As a Lead Engineer at Starlink you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will work on precision machined products with single-digit micron tolerances used in critical payloads on satellite and ground hardware in the Starlink network. Your team will be responsible for managing the relationship between our development and production teams to drive quick turnarounds on new hardware manufacturing. You will provide input into the design and development of new and existing hardware and take a lead role in manufacturing our current and next generation payloads.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and build a team of engineers who support precision machined hardware development and production. Provide this team with guidance, mentorship, and career coaching Establish and maintain a strong team culture of technical excellence and collaboration Aggressively implement process improvements to production processes to improve quality and throughput Create capital and facility justifications for large projects and process improvements. Own these projects through implementation and activation Oversee all process functions, document control and continuous improvement within machining processes as required Build and maintain a workflow for precision machining development and production requirements (DFM, process controls, process monitoring, etc.)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering 2+ years of experience in designing, building, analyzing, or testing complex parts

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Understanding of theory and practical application of GD&T Strong preference to candidates who have a consistent record of exceptional personal achievements and contributions that have supported career progression Prior experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Hands on experience milling, turning, and/or CMM inspection Strong demonstrable experience using GD&T Experience with full part life cycle from design through verification and production Practical and programming experience with high precision metrology including CMM, Profilometer, interferometer, etc.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed Some travel required (up to 10%) Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:    

Pay range:    
Lead: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00/per year    

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
