The role:
To lead, develop, implement, revise and oversee the British Airways data protection programme.
Responsible for implementing standards and procedures, and monitoring compliance and data practices internally, to ensure the business and its functions comply with the requirements of applicable data protection regulations and that the compliance programme is effective in preventing, identifying, detecting, and correcting any non-compliance.
What you’ll do:
Supervise and advise on data protection impact assessments relating to relevant business projects across BA and across the Group where BA personal data is used.Review vendor contracts, precedents and consents needed to implement projects in partnership with other relevant functions including procurement and information security teams.Implement and oversee the process for data subjects to exercise their individual data rights and manage the response process.Monitor compliance with applicable laws and policies.Manage an assurance program and related audits.Oversee the maintenance of records required to demonstrate DP compliance.Implement the data incident response and data breach notification procedures.Manage the relationships with, and company reporting to, relevant Data Protection Authorities.Participate in the IAG Privacy Steering Groups, contributing to any IAG risk assessments, and implementing any IAG group-wide policies within BA.Assign responsibilities to the BA Data Protection team to achieve the above and and work with outside counsel where necessary.What you’ll bring to British Airways:
Expert knowledge of relevant data privacy legislation and enforcement regimes in the UK and EU, and a good understanding of other major privacy frameworks and evolving legislation worldwide, in particular the US.Sufficient knowledge of information technology and data management systems required.Ability to manage time well, prioritise effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.Pragmatic in devising actions and solutions to mitigate privacy risks.Strong influencing skills to obtain management commitment to implement mitigating actions.Able to gain a detailed understanding of the business and assess BA’s external risk profile and regulatory obligations.Good investigative skills, prepared to challenge and stand their ground.Good people management skills, able to motivate, inspire and coach staff effectively.Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with the appropriatediscretion.
Your experience:
Relevant Legal, Accounting or Internal Audit qualifications or similar working experience essential.Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as, CIPP, CIPT, ISEB preferred.Significant (6+ PQE) experience in managing or advising on similar privacy programmes essential.Experience in developing policy and compliance training.Experience in dealing with Data Protection Authorities, governments, and industry bodies.Experience in managing data incidents and breaches.Knowledge of cybersecurity risks, PCI DSS, and other information security standards.A legal, compliance, IT security/ InfoSec, or audit backgroundWhat we offer:
