Job Description:

The Lead Railcar Technician conducts all aspects of repair and maintenance on railcars. This person must demonstrate good leadership and team skills while being a safety-conscious person. Will also be responsible for providing quality and safety training, along with monthly safety meetings with customers and site personnel.

Some travel may be requiredTank Qualification experience is a plusUnderstand and perform all work outlined under SupervisionConduct railcar inspections to ensure cars comply with all FRA, AAR, and customer requirementsPerform repairs as necessary while always using current safety and quality standards and repair proceduresPerform mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars including tank and hopper cars when requiredOccasionally performing welding repairs when neededCoordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hoursMaintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards.Notify supervision of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasksInteract well with team members and supervisorMeet the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure we deliver a best-in-class customer experienceEnsure all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order information is accurate and completeActively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspectionsFollow all safety rules and practicesMay be involved in safety committees or initiativesFill in for Supervisor duties when outAssist with internal and external auditsOrdering parts, receiving PO’s and inventory managementPerform other duties as assigned

General Requirements:

Must hold RT3 / RT3F certifications at minimum which includes Air Brake Testing (ABT) and Designated Inspector (DI)Must have completion of TM-02/TM-03 Quality TrainingHigh school diploma or GED required.Must hold a Valid Driver’s LicenseDemonstrate job-related knowledge including following written instructionsDemonstrate an ability to safely operate machinery including, but not limited to large work vehicles, which may also pull trailers from time to time, and forkliftsBe dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including any overtimeAbility to learn basic railcar knowledgeProficiency with the use of basic hand and power toolsAbility to learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawingsAbility to pass DOT Requirements is a plusAbility to perform confined space entry or monitoring and create hot work permitsAbility to pass any required NDT disciplines and function specific certifications, which may include tank car welding, and demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulationsAbility to obtain all of the certifications required for Railcar Tech Level 5: Timeline and required test depend on specific locationAny type of welding/mechanical experience or railcar knowledge is preferredMust be legal to work in the United State now and in the future without sponsorship requirements

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positionsMust be able to lift up to 50 pounds from the ground surfaceMust be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heightsMust be able to work in confined spaces and be able to enter into a 20" diameter access hatch.Must be able to perform a FIT Test and wear a respiratorMust be able to pass company physical exam, drug screening and background check

Environmental and Working Conditions:

The physical environment for this job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat or cold, wet, humid, or dry and dusty conditions. The employee may be frequently exposed to heights that require the use of fall protection equipment. Team members are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions and job function details dictate.
