Position Summary

The Recreation Therapist (RT) plans and conducts scheduled recreation therapy group sessions/programs, and individual sessions as needed. The RT will participate in co-treatment activities with other disciplines as identified. The RT is responsible for completing assessment data, care planning, and routine documentation related to leisure functioning. RT’s participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary treatment team on all matters concerning the patient.
Reports to: Program Director

 

Responsibilities of the Position

Conducts assessment and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the individual needs of patients.

Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions.

Coordinates therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.

Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure life styles and creates an awareness of recreational resources in their community.


Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Bachelors Degree in Recreational Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation.

 

Certifications/Licenses

Licensed by the state of North Carolina through The North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Certified in the United Stated through The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.

 

Required Skills

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Handle with Care (HWC) within 6 months of hire.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
