Summary:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager of the Procedural Care Unit. Performs all duties of Staff Nurse. Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care in accordance with the Brown University Health and the mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.
Responsibilities:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIIES:
Oversees the daily operation of the assigned Procedural Care unit monitoring the patient schedule on a daily basis ensuring that cases are scheduled in a timely manner. Works closely with the Patient Flow Coordinator to ensure correct patient placement within the unit. Ensures that physician and patient needs are met.
Identifies and resolves nursing care conflicts related to the unit working with the Clinical Manager.
Provides input to hiring and orients new staff. Provides professional guidance and assistance to nursing personnel in work activities. Performs the duties of Staff Nurse in the Procedural Care Unit.
Completes and posts scheduling for RNs CNAs and PFCs. This includes weekly schedules and call schedules.
Updates and makes necessary changes to payroll within the payroll system to reflect accurate pay practices.
Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control standards in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.
Performs audits within the department to ensure compliance with established department policies.
Participates in the development and administration of annual performance appraisals and developmental goals under the direction and approval of the Clinical Manager.
Performs other related duties as required.
Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Completion of formal education in an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor�s degree in nursing preferred.
RN with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
Conforms to the Code of Professional Nurses. Understands the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island. Responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of contemporary Professional Nursing practice within the legal framework of the Nurse Practice Act.
BLS Certified
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) required within six (6) months of employment.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Two years relevant experience with demonstrated clinical and leadership skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Acute care hospital environment. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of department policies; generally refers specific problems to supervisor only where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
None. Expected to provide guidance to staff nurses working in the Procedural Care Unit.
