Lead Sensor Engineer

The Sensor Technology Group, part of Ecolab’s Global Sensors and Equipment Group, has an opening for a Lead Sensor Engineer focused on new sensor development and sensor technology leadership.  The successful candidate must have a background in Experimental Physics or related field (see below) and an advanced understanding of the full life cycle of a sensor -  from ideation to prototype to final design and test including the characterization of novel sensors and control systems.  In addition, a demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional projects are required including the ability to clearly define goals and requirements.  The Lead Sensor Engineer will work in teams with associates across Ecolab RD&E to solve difficult problems to provide Sensor solutions for our customers and must support research and development, manufacturing, intellectual property, and regulatory efforts.  Strong communicators with a results orientation and a background in Experimental Physics or developing Analytical Equipment are encouraged to apply.

What you will do:

Understand and assess sensor needs and requirements from the businesses and recommend, use, and/or develop sensor solutions to meet customer needs

Adapt and integrate commercially available sensor technologies for Ecolab applications

Develop sensing solutions to meet Ecolab’s product requirements and customer needs

Research and demonstrate the feasibility of new technologies to meet sensor needs

Determine the quickest way to build and test prototypes in the lab and field environments, “maker” mindset, to quickly assess feasibility

Lead and Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand needs and to develop new sensor-enabled products

Document and publish research results, both written and through presentations and demonstrations

Propose and develop platform sensing technologies which can be adapted to solve multiple problems for Ecolab’s businesses

Minimum Qualifications:

MS in Applied or Experimental Physics, Physical or Analytical Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or related field and 4+ years of post-graduate work experience in Research and Development

Experience working both independently and in a team environment

Experience in defining, implementing, characterizing, and leading end-to-end sensing systems development or analytical instrumentation development

Experience developing performance metrics for the evaluation of sensor systems

Experience developing market driven, multidisciplinary based sensors: Optical, Opto-electronic, Electro-chemical, Electro-mechanical, Biological, Acoustic and/or Complex Analog and Digital Signal Processing

Experience with innovative and creative solution generation that have been reduced to practice and launched to the field

Experience managing a wide range of and concurrent technical projects and getting agreement on and managing priorities

Demonstrated experience to learn new areas and applications

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Applied or Experimental Physics, Physical or Analytical Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or related field and 10+ years of post-graduate work experience

Ability to develop Software and design electrical boards for prototyping new sensor technologies

Cross-functional team leadership or demonstrated ability to manage teams

Project management experience

Problem-solving skills and familiarity with problem-solving

Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills and ability to present results clearly and concisely to variety of audiences

Ability to understand Nalco Water and Ecolab applications and develop appropriate characterization tools to be able to get to the heart of problems

Knowledge of emerging sensor technology trends and the field of data analytics

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The base salary range for this position is $104,700.00 - $157,100.00. This position is eligible for annual bonus pay based on performance, per plan terms. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
