The Lead Software Engineer in Retirement Plan Services (RPS) Tech Engineering leads modernization initiatives to transform legacy systems into secure, scalable, and cloud-native platforms. This position drives strategic alignment between technology and business priorities, enabling Schwab to innovate and challenge the status quo. The role offers enterprise-level impact, exposure to advanced technologies, and opportunities for leadership development. Candidates will work with a collaborative team focused on automation, DevOps, and continuous improvement. Position Responsibilities:
Lead modernization initiatives for RPS Tech platformsAlign technology strategy with business objectivesMentor and develop team talentEnsure operational excellence, security, and performanceCollaborate with architects and product teams to implement Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Clean Architecture principlesEnsure API solutions meet enterprise security, scalability, and performance standardsMentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across multiple teamsPartner with cross-functional teams to integrate APIs with public/private cloud environments and enterprise systemsContribute to governance improvements and enforce coding standards and CI/CD practicesTroubleshoot complex issues and optimize API performance in production environmentsWhat you haveRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)10+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong focus on API development5+ years in leadership roles,leading engineering teams and delivering enterprise-scale technology solutionsExpertise in .NET Core/.NET 6+, C#, and RESTful API designStrong understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Clean ArchitectureHands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and automated testing frameworksSolid knowledge of security best practices for APIs (OAuth2, JWT, etc.)Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environmentExperience working in Agile/SAFe environments, leading SCRUM teams and driving iterative deliveryDemonstrated ability to align technology strategy with business objectives and influence senior stakeholdersDeep knowledge of API design and integration, microservices, and distributed systemsLead technical design and development of modern APIs using .NET technologies and best practicesDrive modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy systems (e.g., SNE) to cloud-native platforms such as PCF/TanzuPreferred Qualifications:
Experience with AI-driven development tools or integration with platforms like Vertex AI ADKFamiliarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)Knowledge of microservices patterns and distributed systemsExposure to performance tuning and observability tools (AppDynamics, Splunk, Prometheus)Prior experience in financial services or retirement plan systemsStrong leadership and mentoring capabilitiesIn addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
