Lead Software Engineer

The Alaka’ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has an opening for a Lead Software Engineer (LWSE) to provide support for the life cycle sustainment of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) Battle Stations 21 (BST-21) program out of Orlando, FL.

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer with a demonstrated understanding of software development for the Department of Defense (DoD) simulation and training industry. This position involves leading software engineering teams in the development, integration, and maintenance of high-quality simulation systems and training applications. The ideal candidate will have strong and diverse technical expertise, leadership experience, and a proven track record of delivering full lifecycle of software solutions that meet strict DoD standards and regulations from.

 

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead a team of software engineers in the design, development, and deployment of simulation and training solutions tailored to requirements. Oversee the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), including requirement analysis, architecture design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Ensure software solutions comply with DoD cybersecurity, interoperability, and other regulatory requirements, including RMF (Risk Management Framework). Design and develop complex software systems using technologies such as C++, C#, Python, Java, and related tools, with an emphasis on real-time simulation environments. Work closely with system architects, program managers, and cross-functional teams to ensure on time delivery of project milestones within budget and quality constraints. Lead the development and success of end-to-end data pipelines, from data collection to customer-facing experiences. Develops, tests, deploys, and maintains custom software. Review and approve software designs, codebases, and documentation to ensure adherence to best practices, security standards, and software quality. Lead and participate in code reviews, design reviews, and architecture discussions to ensure high-quality solutions. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and meet security compliance standards. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, DoD customers, subcontractors, and other Integrated Product Team (IPT) members to align software solutions with broader defense objectives. Assign roles and tasks to team members based on their individual strengths and abilities Help build the skill sets of team members and share learnings with other employees Achieve organizational goals while adhering to standards and best practices Ensuring CDRLs and documents are developed in accordance with program specifications. Collecting and accumulating appropriate technical information and data through researching and analyzing technical data and publications, engineering drawings, test procedures, design specifications/documentation, software description documents, engineering documents, and logistics documents. Working in a team environment, taking direction with minimal follow-up to complete a task/project. Travel may be required between 25% - 50%.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

At least eight plus (8+) years’ experience in software development with a focus on security and networking. Experience with C#, SQL, and .NET Frameworks. Ability to grasp new concepts quickly; to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to accurately analyze, document and develop technical procedures. Ability to work independently in a team environment. Experience with Navy, Navy training system, or Navy ships is preferred.

DESIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

​​Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Engineering, or similar discipline. 15 years of direct experience may substitute in lieu of a degree.
