The Opportunity: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented tax professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of corporate state and local income tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements while also being able to support federal tax processes. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including tax research, oversight of return preparation, review, and quarterly tax provisioning with an emphasis on state income tax.

• Location/Work Arrangement: This role requires hybrid presence in one of our North America office locations (2-3 days/week) in Chicago, IL, New York City, NY, or Sun Prairie, WI. However, for the right candidate, we may consider fully remote.

• The starting salary range for this role is between $96,500-$180,500, depending on experience and location.

Your New Role:

Review and help oversee state income tax provision processes including updates to apportionment, reviewing the current and deferred tax calculations, and analyzing payables, deferred tax assets, and valuation allowancesReview quarterly state estimates and income tax extensionsHelp develop strategies and tax planning opportunitiesResearch state income tax implications of corporate transactions, including state treatment of insurance companies and mergers or sales; summarize findings in chart and audit-ready memo formatCollaborate with onshore and offshore teams to manage compliance and reporting calendarsManage state return to provision processes and finalize year-end reconciliationsManage state tax authority audits and related information requests, as neededPrepare analysis, modeling, and tax deliverables related to new tax laws and/or other technical mattersReview income tax returns and workpapers for P&C insurance and non-insurance companiesSupport the quarterly federal tax provision process under AIFRS17 and US Local STAT including book to tax reconciliationsChampion process improvement by evaluating current processes, identifying weaknesses and opportunities; help implement new procedures where necessaryCollaborate with internal audit to assess the effectiveness of internal controls and assist in implementing corrective actions based on audit findings Support team member development by assisting with integration of onshore and/or offshore staff, sharing knowledge through training sessions, helping resolve questions and providing recommendations on best practices within area of responsibility to support the achievement of business goals and objectives

Preferred Competencies/Skills

Detail-oriented with high degree of tax and financial acumen and awareness of financial responsibility with heavy experience with state income taxesAppropriately prioritize assigned tasks to ensure timely goal achievement; ability to independently manage multiple priorities effectivelyCreate and maintain current, accurate and readily accessible data in various formats, as needed to facilitate systems processes and internal and external reporting to key stakeholdersMonitor short and long-term impact of contributions and ensure accuracy and adherence to long-term goalsImplement automated dashboards and summary reports to provide access to critical system information to managementAbility to analyze information, draw conclusions, and use logic to address work-related issues and problemsInfluence and collaborate with people at different levels within the organization to accomplish a common goalExperience with the following technology solutions: Corptax Compliance for Tax Returns, Oracle Fusion for General Ledger, SmartView add-in for push/pull functionality, and Oracle Tax Compliance and Reporting Solution for quarterly provision and reporting Experience working in a hybrid or collaborative cross-functional team environment, including managing offshore resourcesProven ability to adapt to and drive process improvements using digital tools and emerging technologies

Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate’s professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBE’s annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance. We encourage all candidates to apply, even if their salary expectations fall outside of this range, as we are committed to finding the right fit for our team.
