Lead Vision Software Engineer

Coherent Corp., located in Plymouth, MI, is looking for a Staff Vision Software Engineer to join its Software Engineering Team for our Laser Systems business unit.  This team designs and builds automated opto-electro-mechanical systems that utilize/integrate lasers to process materials in semiconductors, medical devices, EV battery cell, industrial and automotive industries. This individual will effectively communicate, regularly share relevant status updates, and perform complex work duties autonomously. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Assess and develop custom machine vision applications Develop and maintain 3D/2D machine vision libraries Part presence and identification Part location and orientation 2D code reading and OCR/OCV Process verification and quality check Integrate custom vision processes into system HMIs Develop vision jobs on third-party sensors/systems, e.g. Cognex Troubleshoot vision/lighting issues both in-house and via remote customer support Interact with internal/external customers to understand needs, develop specifications, and ultimately deliver outstanding solutions Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or comparable degree and 7+ years of related experience or; Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or comparable degree and 5+ years of related experience Extensive 2D and 3D Machine Vision experience Experience integrating machine vision using C# .NET and C++ Experience with several vision platforms, e.g. OpenCV, PCL, Cognex, Halcon Experience with 3D camera sensors, e.g. LMI Gocator Experience developing custom vision algorithms Halcon library experience is desirable

Skills

Willing to travel up to 10% for onsite revalidation and customer troubleshooting. Familiarity with different types of machine vision lighting Ability to work both independently and in a team environment Strong prioritization skills Strong written communication skills 

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both an office and manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

Sit and/or stand for an 8-hour shift.
