About the role: 

 

The (Sr) Director, Enterprise Leader Development is responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive leadership strategies for the Operating Group (VP+) leadership group and differentiated experiences for successors to exec team and critical roles. This role will be responsible for ensuring there is an ongoing, dynamic learning experience that enables both individual and collective growth of this executive group, connected to organizational strategy and ultimately, developing future ready leaders. The Sr Director Enterprise Leader Development will have deep experience in leadership development, specifically adult learning expertise and talent acceleration approaches. This leader will facilitate input from external thought leaders and practitioners in service of developing experiences that reflect a future focused approach to leadership.  This role has the opportunity to build on strong practices and embed leadership growth as part of our culture and transformation efforts, including measurable and sustainable outcomes. This leader will bring solid experience in coaching and facilitating highly engaging and experiential learning and be a trusted advisor to HR and Senior business leaders to accelerate our leadership and organizational growth.  

 

This role reports to the Global Head of Talent & Growth and is located in Foster City, CA.  

 

Responsibilities: 

 

Leadership Journey: 

Develop and implement a strategic leadership journey for enterprise leaders that fosters ongoing growth, leadership agility, cross-functional collaboration and builds capacity, capability and community. 

Craft a comprehensive leadership development roadmap, including experiences that address critical leadership capabilities, organizational culture, and market dynamics. 

Ensure that the enterprise leadership journey is part of an ecosystem experience. Create mechanisms of support and challenge and opportunities for leaders to practice in the flow of work. 

Successor Development for Critical Roles: 

Create customized development approaches to ensure accelerated development an increased readiness of high growth talent in succession for executive level critical roles.  

Ensure systemic review of readiness and progress against development plans, including input from executive coaches and other partners working with key talent.  

Executive Coaching: 

Develop a cadre of preferred executive coaches, aligned with our leadership goals and organizational culture.  

Partner with HR and Business leaders to set up executive coaching matching and ongoing engagement.  

Facilitate executive coaching forums to share internal insights and leadership themes observed. 

Insights and Measurement: 

Use data and insights to makes sense of what is happening in the organizational system and share with appropriate partners and leaders to inform thinking. 

Establish data requirement and metrics to evaluate effectiveness and understand progress, tracking leadership growth, succession readiness, and overall business impact. 

Continuously refine approach based on feedback, leadership needs, and changing business dynamics. 

 

 

Expertise: 

14+ years with BS/BA; 12+ Years with MS/MA or MBA  

Progressive experience in leadership development and/or human capital experience people / talent management (in either an HR internal role or HR consulting role working directly in Human Capital or Leadership development consulting), with a focus on executive level leadership. 

Experience advising and guiding leaders in talent and leadership practices in a global environment. 

Expertise in leadership assessments, executive coaching and differentiated development experiences for executives, with a focus on adult development principles and vertical development application.

Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence across a matrixed, global organization, responding quickly to change and adapting/operating in ambiguous environment.

Takes a proactive, long term perspective in design and developing approaches to deliver outcomes for the business.  

Seeks diverse perspectives, experiences and insight; creates an environment of trust and openness.  

Demonstrates enterprise mindset and systems thinking. Understands how work fits into the ecosystem and takes care in creating connections. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills; is able to simplify and integrate complex concepts and ideas.

The salary range for this position is: $237,660.00 - $307,560.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
