OCG is made up of three separate teams, each delivering a full set of services that work together closely to deliver a broad portfolio of operational excellence solutions:
Consulting: Provides Lean Six Sigma based process improvement services
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO): Uses third party staffing to execute standard work activities in low cost international locations
Automation: Delivers robotic process automation (RPA via Blue Prism) and digital workflow solutions (Appian) and automated input management (OCR via Open Text and other solutions).
The Operations Consultant Role will lead large scale process improvement projects usually affecting an entire department’s value stream or components of the overall insurance value stream across multiple departments. As such, the Operations Consultant will work with AMIG’s senior leadership (usually VP or Board Level stakeholders) to lead large scale transformations using a data driven approach based on traditional DMAIC methodology.
The Operations Consultant -Belting Lead, must be able to quickly develop and understanding of the current state of the Lean Belting Program. Develop and overall strategy for the program that fits and supports our Shingo Quality Framework implementation and determine gaps between current state and that Shingo led future. Furthermore, as head of the Belting Program, you will be responsible for coaching Green & Black Belt candidates across the entire training roadmap including development of their project practicum. A key part of the position is your ability to serve as a Shingo Evangelist. This means that you will work with department heads to develop gap resolution plans addressing shortfalls between actual and expected operational maturity.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Become a trusted advisor to our business customers in matters related to operational excellence
Account management leading to a comprehensive improvement roadmap that will ensure ongoing engagement between Ops Consulting and our internal customers
Self-directed change agent able to implement new initiatives across multiple departments in a systemic way, delivering substantial impact to the overall organization
Develop a deep understanding of business problems, as they related to ineffective processes, roles, tools and data in order to develop pragmatic solutions that resolve root cause rather than symptoms in a sustainable way
Analyze existing business processes to identify impediments to flow, failure modes creating rework and built in loops and complexity that hinder efficient and effective processing and drive up costs and lead time
Develop and implement end-to-end service solutions based on Lean Six Sigma improvement methods, tools and techniques ensuring analysis and suggested improvements are driven by data and direct observation rather than gut feel
Partner with business to gather voice of the customer, voice of the process in order to build a solid business case and “sell it” to senior leadership securing funding, staffing and high level project prioritization
Partner with Financial Planning & Analysis department to ensure Cost Benefit Analysis accounts for both hard and soft costs & benefits (both at top line and bottom line) and track benefits throughout the agreed-to payback period
Work with internal Ops Consulting teams (Automation & Business Process Outsourcing) to develop holistic solutions that solve business problems in the most efficient and cost effective way while maintaining adequate process controls
Run Kaizen events jointly with customer subject matter experts ensuring adequate knowledge transfer of Lean Six Sigma concepts back to “the business”
Develop maturity roadmaps focused on systems development following Shingo Quality Framework Systems & Principles and provide ongoing assessment/auditing of progress based on Shingo’s established maturity rubric
Required Technical Skills:
Bachelors degree
Six Sigma Black Belt (Master Black Belt preferred) or Lean Gold Belt or equivalent in both cases required
Insurance or financial services experience
7+ years of process improvement consulting experience
Lean and/or Six Sigma Black belt certifications or commitment to secure within 12 months of joining if candidate has substantial (5 years) business consulting background
Lean Six Sigma experience may be interchangeable with 5 plus years of training and development experience, typically as part of an HR or Training and Development role
Understanding of and experience in implementing Shingo, Baldridge or similar quality frameworks
Proficiency with Minitab or similar statistical software
Technical writing including BPMN 2 proficiency
Adonis, Aris, Signavio or similar BPMN tool experience highly desirable
Design Thinking
Project management (PMI-PMP)
Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
