Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:
Seeks out and eliminates waste in the plant by utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts and the principles of Kaizen (continuous improvement.)  Effectively leads teams using company endorsed project management techniques along with Lean Manufacturing principles.  Drives performance excellence and embraces the role of a change agent.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:
•    Serve as a Lean Manufacturing Subject Matter Expert
•    Lead interdepartmental efforts to identify waste and implement solutions for continuous improvement
•    Analyze work processes, develop and communicate standardized best practices
•    Provide input to plant capacity and process throughput based on time studies and observations
•    Manage the plant Employee Suggestion (KABLE) Program
•    Support the plant 5S program.  Drive 5S standardization across all processes
•    Provide support to multiple processes by:
-    Working with production on process flow issues
-    Active participation in improvement projects and the Equipment Improvement Teams.
•    Manage projects utilizing company endorsed project management and problem solving techniques  

 

Travel Requirements:
•    Less than 10%.   As required for intercompany projects/initiatives, benchmarking and training.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.   Additional hours may be required to ensure project work is completed in a timely fashion.

 

Required Education, Experience & Skills:
•    BS, Engineering with a minimum of 2-4 years manufacturing experience.
•    Intimate knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and their practical uses in a production environment
•    Understanding of basic manufacturing systems
•    Ability to effectively lead team-based projects
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Access and PowerPoint
•    Familiarity utilizing and retrieving data from relational databases such as MS Access
•    Ability to create clear, organized presentations and deliver them to diverse audiences
•    Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions 
•    Results-oriented and high commitment

The range for this position is $86,197.00 - $118,521.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
