Leave and Accommodation Specialist

The Leave of Absence and Accommodations Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Tempus AI’s leave of absence and accommodations processes. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws, collaborates with internal stakeholders, and serves as the primary liaison with third-party administrators, payroll, and state government agencies. The Specialist will support employees throughout the leave process while maintaining a fair, consistent, and compliant approach to leave and accommodation administration.

Leave of Absence Administration Manage and oversee all employee leave types, including FMLA, ADA, state-paid family leaves, parental leave, disability, and personal leaves. Act as the primary point of contact for employees, managers, HR partners, and third-party leave administrators to ensure a seamless leave process. Monitor leave requests, eligibility, and approval processes to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company leave policies. Work with state government personnel to administer and track state-paid family leave programs and payments. Accommodation Coordination Coordinate employee accommodation requests under the ADA and other applicable laws, working with HR, managers, and employees to identify reasonable accommodations. Track and document all accommodation requests, interactive processes, and outcomes. Compliance and Documentation Maintain up-to-date knowledge of leave and accommodation laws and regulations (e.g., FMLA, ADA, state-specific laws). Ensure accurate documentation of all leave and accommodation activities and maintain confidentiality in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Collaborate with legal counsel and compliance teams to address complex cases. Collaboration with Payroll and HR Business Partners Partner with payroll to ensure accurate tracking of leave-related pay, benefits, and state reimbursements. Work closely with HRBPs to advise on employee leave trends and provide proactive solutions for workforce planning. Employee Support and Communication Serve as a trusted resource for employees regarding leave and accommodation policies, providing clear guidance and support throughout the process. Create and deliver training and communication materials to educate employees and managers on leave policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Experience: 3+ years of experience administering leaves of absence and accommodations Experience managing state-paid family leave programs and working with third-party leave administrators. Benefits administration experience preferred Skills: Strong knowledge of federal and state leave laws (FMLA, ADA, state-specific paid family leave programs). Exceptional organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
