The Department of Africana Studies at Binghamton University, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Africana Studies with an emphasis on teaching Black history and social movements, especially in black nationalism, Pan-Africanism and social justice.
The successful candidate will teach three undergraduate courses per semester. Some of the courses will be lecture-format general education courses. The teaching load includes both large lecture courses and smaller discussion courses. At Binghamton University, the gen-eds are defined by learning goals, not set syllabi, and we value instructor autonomy.
We seek candidates who have experience teaching in black history and social justice, and who are engaged in the study of best practices in college teaching. We are especially interested in candidates with teaching experience in transnational and intercultural contexts as well as a knowledge of developments in the field of Black Nationalism/Pan Africanism. Departmental service is also required.
Initial appointment is for up to three years, beginning Fall 2025, with the possibility of renewal.
Job Requirements:
Required:
+ Ph.D. in Africana Studies or a related field by August 18, 2025
+ Experience in undergraduate teaching
+ Experience in teaching historical and contemporary issues in black studies and movements
Preferred:
+ Experience in leadership with undergraduate pedagogy or student mentoring
+ Experience in teaching courses that focus on social justice
+ Interest in outreach across departments and disciplines.
