Lecturer in Music

The Department of Music at the University of Virginia seeks applications for an Lecturer in Music with a specialization in Horn. The appointment begins on August 26, 2025. This is a one-year benefits-eligible, tenure-ineligible appointment. Duties include performing as Principal Horn in the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia, coaching orchestra horn sectionals, and coaching a chamber music ensemble, with potential for additional performance opportunities. The Instructor in Horn will also maintain a studio of primarily undergraduate students. These private lessons are compensated beyond the wages of the primary teaching duties.
The UVA Music Department supports a vibrant performance program featuring a wide range of ensembles such as new music, jazz, wind ensemble, and many more. In addition, the Department offers innovative programs in Composition and Computer Technologies, and Critical and Comparative Studies. We are very interested in attracting excellent performance colleagues who can also interact with these areas of the Department in some way.
Applicants must have a master's degree in music by the date of appointment. Successful teaching and recruiting experience at the university level and evidence of significant experience as a solo and ensemble performer is desired. Candidates should be comfortable teaching students of varying skill levels (music majors and non-majors) and teaching a range of techniques and repertoires.
