Job Description
The Department of World Languages & Cultures at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a Lecturer of Spanish to begin in Fall 2025. This is an annual 10-month, non-tenure-track appointment. The department strongly encourages applications from qualified candidates who can contribute to equity, diversity, and inclusion through their teaching, mentoring, and service.
The Lecturer will teach 12 credit hours of Spanish per semester (4:4 load), mostly at the 100 and 200 level with a possibility for teaching at the 300 and 400 level. Summer teaching is optional. Some service is also required, including committee work, curriculum development, and mentoring students through extra-curricular activities. While published research is not required in this position, an ongoing interest in and engagement with a field of expertise is expected for promotion.

Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications
Candidates must have a Master’s in Spanish, or a Master’s in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credits in Spanish.
Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
+ Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate level.
+ Native or near-native Spanish proficiency.
+ Demonstrated use of ACTFL proficiency guidelines and the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages in the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Ph.D. in Spanish.
+ Specialization in medical Spanish, translation and interpreting, and/or Spanish for heritage speakers.
+ Demonstrated ability to teach Spanish for students with accommodations.
+ Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into teaching and interest in online instruction.

Must be able to teach in person courses on main campus.
