We are seeking an experienced paralegal to join our Legal Services Team and to collaborate with attorneys and legal professionals in MetLife’s Legal Affairs department to support the company’s various lines of business. The successful candidate must possess exceptional written, verbal, and organizational skills and a keen eye for detail. They also must demonstrate professionalism, provide first-rate customer service, and have strong legal acumen, sound judgment, and an ability to maintain a high volume of work effectively. The incumbent will have a growth mindset and agility in learning through collaboration and working autonomously. Experience at a large law firm or corporation with functional knowledge of contract management and corporate governance is required along with proficiency in legal research and technology. Key Responsibilities: * Collaborate with small team of legal professionals to identify and communicate Regulatory Changes to key stakeholders supporting our U.S. Businesses. * Review new and updated U.S. state and federal laws and regulations received from dedicated sources. * Over time, build understanding of the company’s U.S. Businesses and key processes. * Distribute relevant content so that Businesses can ensure compliance. * Review and revise confidential agreements and contracts in accordance with corporate standards. * Maintain current and historical confidential corporate information electronically in various databases. * Review and revise third-party contracts and communicate terms. * Assisting with various assignments/projects as needed. Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: Required: * Advanced technical skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-Docs, SharePoint, Outlook, Workshare Compare, Westlaw, Lexis, NAIC website, NILS, web-based applications, and legal systems * Draft, review, and/or analyze routine legal documents as requested by attorneys * Perform proficient legal research with sound knowledge of legal concepts and ability to analyze facts * Exceptional written, verbal, and organizational skills * Strong attention to detail * Exceptional analytical, organizational, workload/project management and interpersonal skills with a strong attention to detail * Flexibility and ability to shifting demands working under tight deadlines and multiple detailed tasks * Takes ownership of deliverables, is accountable, and owns professional development by actively seeking out feedback, learning new skills and new systems quickly and teaching others as necessary * Ability to work independently with integrity and ethical professional judgment * Capable of anticipating issues and exercising proper judgment to solve problems knowing when to escalate issues * Passion for process analysis and continuous improvement * Proactive in providing updates to supervising attorneys and/or management * Collaborate and maintain positive working relationships fostering a productive work environment * Continuously refine, develop, and expand skills in anticipation of changes in the work environment or profession Preferred: * 3+ years of paralegal experience * Paralegal Degree or certificate from an ABA accredited institution and/or college degree * Experience identifying and communicating relevant Regulatory Changes to legal and business teams. * Notary Public (or willingness to obtain Notary) At MetLife, we’re leading the global transformation of an industry we’ve long defined.
