We’re establishing four Legal Powerhouses in Bangalore, Mexico City, Barcelona and São Paulo, which will be an integral part of the Legal Function and provide defined, structured services to our other lawyers and to the wider business. 

 

Where this position fits-into the team: 

Part of the Unilever Legal Powerhouse - a team we’re currently building, which consists of around 20 colleagues in Mexico City 

Integral part of the Unilever’s Legal Function - a global operation consisting of approximately 600 lawyers and specialists. 

Specialist privacy support for the Americas with a focus on our North America Business Units.  
 

Role purpose 

 

To be the first point of contact for our brands and functions in the Americas during the privacy risk assessment process with a focus on supporting our NA Business Units. Advise stakeholders in the Americas on operational privacy work including compliance with Unilever’s privacy processes, negotiating privacy contracts, and responding to data subject requests. Support the tracking and management of our NA privacy program, including compliance with new US state privacy laws.  

 

Key Responsibilities  

 

Acting as first point of contact for our brands and functions in the Americas during the privacy risk assessment process. 

Assist the US Data Privacy Officer with the management of our North American (NA) Privacy Program, including tracking compliance with new US privacy laws and progress against our privacy program priorities.  

Tracking the privacy compliance of our Global Business Units, including with Unilever’s Minimum Privacy Standards for Acquired Businesses, and support the deployment of new compliance requirements for those businesses to comply with new US privacy laws.  

Supporting the US Privacy & Data Governance teams to handle Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and Privacy Risk Assessments (PRAs).  

Supporting operational privacy tasks such as implementing updates to our US privacy notices and data mapping. 

Updating NA privacy materials and resources such as our Privacy Risk Assessment guidance, marketing consent guidance, and NA data incident management protocol.  

Reporting on trends in privacy requests / issues, producing standard reports and supporting the team’s agenda to become more data driven in decisions.  

 

 

Qualifications & Experience  

 Legally qualified with experience in data protection and privacy. 

Privacy certification such as CIPP US or willingness to complete. 

Experience with ] privacy compliance processes including privacy risk assessment 

Experience in project management and coordination. 

Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
