You will work closely with attorneys and legal staff to support Enterprise Operations personnel in the tax administration of fixed and variable annuity and life insurance business lines. This includes nonqualified annuity contracts and contracts sold as IRAs or part of qualified retirement plans (401(k)s, profit-sharing plans, defined benefit plans, and 403(b)s). You will assist attorneys with legal matters related to insurance contract administration, including new business processing, in-force administration of contracts, and claim processing, with a specific focus on the income tax aspects of administering insurance products.
What you do:
Provide Legal Support: Support attorneys, legal staff, and Enterprise Operations personnel by handling and facilitating responses to various tax-related inquiries and addressing issues specific to the tax administration of annuity and life insurance products. Conduct Tax Research: Perform tax research, review, analyze, and evaluate data for tax-related issues such as federal/state income tax withholding, Form 1099 reporting, death claim distribution options, and product development tax issues. Implement Process Improvements: Assist with the implementation of identified process improvements and best practices, as well as changes in tax law affecting annuity and life insurance products. Communicate Effectively: Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts in an understandable and efficient manner. Organize Efficiently: Exhibit strong organizational skills, including the ability to work independently on projects with minimal supervision. Strategic Thinking: Develop and implement strategic plans to address tax-related issues and improve the overall tax administration process for annuity and life insurance products. Build Strong Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and communication across departments.What you bring:
Experience: Possess 7 – 10 years of experience in the insurance or financial services industry, specifically working with tax issues related to the administration of life insurance and/or annuity products. Knowledge: Have extensive experience with life insurance and annuity contracts and a thorough understanding of the tax issues that apply to these product lines. Education: Hold a four-year degree or have equivalent work experience.
