We have an exciting new opportunity as Legal Counsel - Financial Crime within the Legal & Corporate Governance team. You’ll be part of a team leading on financial crime legislation and regulation, with responsibility for providing legal advice in all areas of economic crime, with a particular focus on the money laundering and sanctions regimes.
You’ll help the bank build stronger foundations by ensuring it meets its legal and regulatory obligations and move together by working closely with first and second line Financial Crime colleagues. You’ll also engage and oversee external law firms, supporting them when giving certain legal advice, in particular on US sanctions regimes.

The difference you’ll make:
Providing high quality, seamless and pragmatic legal advice to the business and Financial Crime first line and second line colleagues, concerning all areas of Financial Crime, in particular, money laundering and sanctions
Managing legal aspects of Financial Crime investigations
Providing the effective delivery of legal Financial Crime training to the business
Advising on best practice in the light of an evolving legal and regulatory environment
Managing external lawyers and other advisors as well as managing costs, timescales, quality and stakeholder management
Reviewing and maintaining data protection policies and handle related queries
What you’ll bring:
These are the essential requirements you need to be successful in this role:
Qualified solicitor or barrister with Post Qualification Experience (or equivalent)
Experience in advising on Financial Crime matters, including experience of Sanctions regimes
A good knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Proceeds of Crime and Counter Terrorist Financing
Experience in drafting a range of legal documents
It would also be nice for you to have:
Highly effective research and analysis skills
Familiarity with financial services and regulations
In house experience in a financial institution
Exceptional communication and discretion skills

This permanent role can be based in London, Milton Keynes or Manchester.

To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).
