In this role your overall purpose is to provide commercially balanced and practical legal advice and support to the overall business of Canon EMEA/Canon Europa N.V. (CENV) you will work together with internal parties such as the local and EMEA Legal Team, your EMEA colleagues in Governance, Compliance & Risk Management, Data Privacy, Intellectual Property and the various internal stakeholders of the CENV Legal Department. As well as external parties like suppliers, regulatory bodies and external counsel where applicable.

As a Legal Counsel you will be responsible for:Providing commercially balanced legal/compliance/governance support to Procurement, IT, Marketing and BusOps, with specific responsibility for drafting, negotiating and advising on a variety of commercial contracts (mainly IT Services & SAS agr., WH & Transportation agr., Marketing Services agr.), including support to RFPs/ tenders;Driving and managing the creation of legal processes, paybooks, templates and guidance notes for the business, and responsible for advising on data privacy, litigation/dispute management, intellectual property (in conjunction with the Canon IP department), anti-bribery and corruption, and other topics as required from time to time;Managing the relationship with the IT Contract Management Department (IT CM), including guidance to the broader IT community, also in terms of: a) processes and demarcation of responsibilities between Legal and IT CM/business, b) regular evaluation of the cooperation with the aim of suggest continuous improvements, etc.;Providing trainings to the business as required (for ex. Dawn Raid).
For this role, you will have:
Experience with drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial contracts in general, and in particular IT/SAS etc. contracts;Experience with managing (IT) stakeholders at different levels of competencies, including leading/providing directions during project management activities and trainings where required;Ideally CIPP/E certification or at least competency in European privacy law;Fluency in English and ideally also proficiency or at least basic understanding of Dutch;Ability to manage and navigate complex business requirements/projects and translate them into relevant contractual documentation. You will needWe are looking for someone who Demonstrates application and competency in the core legal subject areas (IT, commercial contracting, marketing, transportation & warehousing etc). who manages cases and workloads efficiently and proactively, prioritising in accordance with management/team requirements. Can demonstrates excellent legal drafting skills and has the ability to identify key legal and commercial issues and to escalate and communicate issues appropriately to legal manager/other relevant stakeholders, in a timely and effective manner. Someone who demonstrates a “can-do” attitude, showing interest for the business and understanding of internal stakeholders’ needs and shares knowledge within the local and EMEA Legal Team, effectively maintaining and updating legal know-how sources.
