Under the leadership of the Director, you will be responsible for providing a wide range of legal services in order to achieve set objectives and/or minimize legal risks for the company. * Please note that this is an opporunity for a 6-month term Here’s where you’ll be focusing: • Provide a broad range of legal services on matters in which Sobeys may be engaged in order to achieve Sobeys’ goals and/or minimize legal risk in coordination with Real Estate, Operational business leaders and key members of Executive and leadership teams • Assist Director and SVP Legal with and/or lead process improvement initiatives including review and update of real estate precedent documents. • Provide functional legal services to business leaders and other employees related to the operation of all retail banners within the retail network, distribution centres and other real estate property assets in Quebec and parts of Atlantic region and including coordination of projects involving Crombie REIT. • Oversee satisfactory resolution of complex, sensitive and sometimes ambiguous legal issues, typically with business risks • Advise the business on legal issues impacting the business, including the drafting and hands-on negotiation of diverse agreements with internal and external clients including leases, purchase and sale documents, non-disturbance agreements and other documents related to managing a large complex real estate portfolio. • Direct some legal actions in which Sobeys is involved, either directly or through outside counsel, including management and oversight of outside counsel • Manage/lead and/or assign work to paralegal and support staff on specific files or provide day-to-day direction • Supporting the legal department with respect to our code of conduct; litigation issues and internal ethics and conflict policies What you have to offer: • Undergraduate degree and a minimum of 5 years experience gained from a combination of private practice and/or in-house roles • Strong track record in managing a broad range of legal issues and interacting closely with business leaders • Experience in purchase and sale transactions and leasing contracts will be preferred • Possess a strong academic record and law firm training, followed by in-house experience, preferably gained in a retail environment • Civil law degree (L.LB) and membership in good standing of the Quebec Bar Association • A Juris Doctor of Common Law would be considered an asset • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills • Ability to feel comfortable in a retail environment and confident dealing with all levels within the organization • Bilingual French and English (The candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada) #LI-Hybrid #LI-AG1 At Sobeys we require our teammates to have the ability to adhere to a hybrid work model that requires your presence at one of our office locations at least three days per week.
