Legal Specialist

Summary 

The Legal Specialist supports Chesapeake Regional Healthcare (CRH) as a specialist in drafting, reviewing, and revising legal letters, agreements, contracts, and various other legal documents.  Supports the Legal Department and Executive Team members assisting with legal issues related to Medical Staff, Human Resources, Physician Relations, Quality of Care.  Performs legal research as necessary in support of Corporate Legal Department.  Educates, and updates clients/departments on specific legal topics. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the functions listed below: 

Provide confidential and legal support as assigned.  

Develop and facilitate internal and external legal inquiry responses (phone, e-mail, in-person). 

Maintain and manage a docket of legal assignments for completion and reporting to Department leaders for review and processing approval. 

Draft, update, review, and implement a variety of corporate legal documents including, but not limited to, correspondence, governance and court filings, contracts, memoranda of understanding, physician employment agreements, business associate agreements, data access agreements, affiliate agreements, purchase agreements, leases, and other legal documents as needed. 

Varied assignments may also include: employment agreements including, but not limited to, provider (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants) contracts and agreements and other issues as needed.  Requests related to Medical Staffing, Medical Staff Bylaws, and other issues as needed. Assists with Physician Practice Mergers and Acquisitions. Reviews Medical Device Agreements and Consignment Agreements. Prepares and submits CRH Licensing Application annually.  Ensures compliance with organization corporate matters including, but not limited to, registration needs, fictitious names, registrations, and certifications. 

Communicates effectively with the Corporate Legal team and CRH and all of its affiliated entities departments following the CRH Code of Conduct. 

Performs legal research as necessary to support operational goals and needs. 

Responsible for other legal administrative matters as assigned. 

 

Qualifications/Education/Experience:

Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Pre-Law, and/or Business. Professional Paralegal certification or legal studies degree is preferred. 

Minimum experience: One year as a Paralegal or legal experience in a healthcare organization and/or healthcare related organization, reviewing and processing of legal inquiries, documents, contracts, rental agreements, and property acquisitions. Three years is preferred. 

Experience working in corporate legal department or law office. 

Knowledge of hospital department operations, purchasing, and sales. 

Strong Skills with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, and Power Point). 

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
