THE ROLE The Legal State Intern can expect to work within the Securities and Business Investments division. The Legal State Intern will assist this division with various research initiatives on emerging fintech trends, including cloud-based systems, cryptocurrency, blockchain, digital payments, artificial technology, and cybersecurity risks. The successful candidate will also assist with the development of robust cybersecurity examination protocols including the development and implementation of a training program for examiners on these emerging trends and cybersecurity risks. ABOUT US The Connecticut Department of Banking is the primary state regulator for state-chartered banks and credit unions, securities, and consumer credit. Its mission is to protect users of financial services from unlawful or improper practices by ensuring regulated entities and individuals adhere to state banking, consumer credit and securities laws. The Department accomplishes this through regular, thorough, and cost-effective examinations of the entities it supervises. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In a state agency this class is established as a structured internship program designed to prepare undergraduate and graduate college students for professional careers in administration, managerial and technical occupations by alternating periods of academic study and practical work experience in their chosen discipline. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES + Receives practical training in application of theories and concepts relevant to work of employing agency; + Assists professional staff in performance of their duties; + Completes independent assignments as necessary; + May prepare reports. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY + Knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of appropriate discipline and ability to apply them in practical situations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Current matriculation in an accredited Associate's, Bachelor's or advanced degree program determined by the Commissioner of the Department of Administrative Services or his/her designee to be appropriate preparation for employment in the designated agency and/or functional area. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS + Currently enrolled full or part time in an accredited law school. + Experience with online legal research. + Experience drafting legal memorandum. + Experience analyzing state and federal statutes, regulations, legislation, and court decisions related to fintechs and cybersecurity. + Experience assessing cybersecurity threats. + Experience working on a team.
