The Mechanical Systems Design Engineer is part of the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function. As the Design Engineer, you will create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements symptomatic of Product System and Sub-System level environments. Crucially, the engineered solutions must exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will also be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of component design definition artifacts i.e. documents, models, definitions that meet system level and sub-system requirements. You will participate within an IPT described by Product Lifecycle System (PLS) and operate in accordance with applicable Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) policies and processes. The Design Engineer is also responsible for sub-system integration of the technical activities for their design solutions and enabling lifecycle profitability through the Supply Chain Design.

Key Accountabilities:  

Lead design and analysis activities for mechanical systems hardware, from requirements capture through program completion.Understand and cascade system requirements into sub-system and component hardware requirements, and issue requirement documents.Provide hardware design concepts and perform trade studies to optimize hardware including basic CADD modeling and structural analysis.Create and document functional and physical interfaces with other component engineers.Develop hardware bill of material and collaborate across teams to integrate with the project-level product structure and configurationSupport creation of engineering drawings and/or model-based definition for project/manufacturing to procure conforming hardwareProvide limits for engine and rig testing and supporting testing including assessment of test results and tested hardwareDevelop technical presentations and associated technical reports in the delivery of solutions

 Basic Requirements:

An Associates degree in Engineering with 3+ years of experience in gas turbine or similar high-tech industry, ORA Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 1+ years of experience in gas turbine or similar high-tech industry, ORA Master’s degree in Engineering, ORJD/PhDYou must be a US Citizen in order to be considered for this opportunity

 

Preferred Requirements:

Clutch, Gear, Shaft, and Structures and Transmissions design experienceExperience with component design methods and practices Familiarity with design processes typically encountered by a Rolls-Royce Design Engineer – Design Technical Approval (DTA), Drawing Approval Process (DAP), Technical Variances (TV), Drawing Approval Request (DAR), Concessions/MRBFamiliarity with the design tools and databases typically used by a Rolls-Royce Design Engineers (NX, Teamcenter)Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis tools (ANSYS Workbench preferred) and the Stress and Lifing Review process A good grasp of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and limit stacksExperience working with manufacturing and quality, especially with regards to the assessment of nonconforming hardwareExperience with computer programming and design optimization
