Assesses the physical strengths and weaknesses of the collection through multiple tools. Assists with leading the library’s Collection Development Committee. Oversees library’s gift acquisitions, representing the library when interacting and communicating with donors. Assists in compiling collection content and expenditure analysis for surveys and reports. May supervise Unit staff in the absence of the Head of Resources and Metadata Management. Reports to the Head of Resources and Metadata Management. Responsibilities: Collection Management: + Oversees the ongoing organization, updating, and weeding of the general collection. Gains familiarity with the University’s curriculum and the Panhandle area to make informed decisions regarding the collection. + Studies the University’s curriculum and assesses the library’s physical/electronic collections’ strengths and weaknesses through the use of data analysis (including COUNTER), condition, surveys, and other tools and reports findings to library’s Collection Development Committee and Liaison Librarians. + Assists with leading the library’s Collection Development Committee. + Developments and implements training programs related to collection management. + Assists in compiling collection content (and expenditure analysis) for surveys and accreditation reports and annual library assessment reports. + Evaluates inquiries about gifts-in-kind or donations for library collections. + Maintains an awareness of issues affecting collection development and management. + Researches ILL borrowing data and reference analytics to recommend material(s) acquisition. + Updates Collection Development Policy in collaboration with Collection Development Committee. + Explores new collection development tools to help and to streamline the collection review process. + Uses such tools as Alma Analytics and Worldshare Collection Manager to evaluate library collection and compare to peer institutions. Access Services: + Communicates with Head of Access Services regarding stack maintenance. + Assists with delivery of services at Access Desk by doing desk hours Personnel Management: + Supervise Resources and Metadata Management staff. + Manages Resources and Metadata Management Unit in the absence of the Head of Resources and Metadata Management Unit. Professional Development: + Maintains currency with developments in library service and collection development and management. + Commits to learning and self-improvement, adding value to Cornette Library and West Texas A&M University through attendance at Cornette Library’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) and through other professional avenues such as membership in professional organizations, conferences, webinars, podcasts, professional literature, presentations and/or publishing. Professional Service: + Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments. + Participates in maintenance of library collections in liaison area(s) through evaluation, weeding, and selection of resources in consultation with faculty and library Collection Development Committee. + Serves on Cornette Library committees. May also participate in university committees and/or regional, State, and national library or library related professional committees. + Demonstrates contributions to the profession through such things as membership in library or library related professional organizations, scholarly publication and/or presentations. + This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Necessary Qualifications: + MLS, MSLS, MLIS from an ALA-accredited program + Three (3) years of library-related experience with two (2) years’ experience working in a library managing collections. + Customer service experience. + Supervisory experience. + Knowledge of collection development principles. + Knowledge in the use of library resources, including reference tools and the processes of research and information retrieval. + Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with others. + Strong soft skills: teamwork and collaboration, professionalism or work ethic, oral and written communication, and critical thinking or problem-solving skills. + Adaptable/flexible with the ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines. + Experience using a wide variety of platforms, hardware, and software, including but not limited to: office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel), Microsoft Windows, Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and discovery services. + Knowledgeable about various subject areas; expertise extends to evaluating information sources for their relevance to the University curriculum and Panhandle area + Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items*. + May require working evenings and weekends. + The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications: + Doctorate in related field + Six (6) years of experience working in an academic library. + Experience working in library circulation/access services. + Experience using ILS, Alma/Primo. + Experience with the Springshare Suite of tools. + Experience working with donors. + Experience with metadata management. + Demonstrated experience building collections & collection development policies in an academic library. + Strong customer service ethic. + Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic librarianship, scholarship, and/or technologies.
