SUMMARY:

 

The Library Technician provides information service such as answering questions regarding card catalogs assists in the use of bibliographic tools, such as Library of Congress Catalog

Assists groups and individuals in locating and obtaining materials, furnishes information on library activities, facilities, rules and services, explains and assists in use of reference sources, such as card or book catalog, or book and periodical indexes to locate information. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provides customer service by assisting customers in identifying and acquiring materials.Performs routine cataloging of library materials.Answers routine inquires, referring all other inquiries to the Head Librarian. Verifies bibliographic information on order requests.Checks in/out items relative to specific types of material in accordance with established procedures.Prepares material for delivery as specified.Updates database to include information associated with the addition/deletion of publications as well as performs routine database searches.


NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

 

Other duties as assigned.May require occasional travel.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

 

High School education or equivalent.Secret Clearance required.One year of general knowledge of routine library functions.Shall have basic knowledge of library operations and be able to perform duties such as circulation, data input, acquisition functions, and provide support to the professional staff.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

 

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform duties such as shelf maintenance and record keeping, circulation and retrieving of material.
Understands filing systems for each type of material and able to file correctly and accurately by specific numbers.
