Summary About the Position: This is a Library Technician position with the Combined Arms Research Library Circulation Services Division located at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Responsibilities Provides ready reference services to library customers by locating required information using standard library reference tools, passing more difficult requests to the appropriate staff member. Monitors microform, audiovisual, photocopies, and other machines available for public use, to include performing routine maintenance functions, paper loading, checking equipment malfunctions and monitoring faulty machines for maintenance. Directs customers to general subject areas, assists customers in locating author, title or subject requests by guiding them in the use of the online catalog. Performs the more difficult registration, circulation, over-dues or loans of materials requiring experience in the application of established circulation procedures and practices. Explains library policy and regulations to patrons and instructs them in the use of library materials and equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One-year specialized experience such as: (1) checking library materials in and out; (2) registering and deleting library patron records in automation system; and (3) assisting customers with finding library materials, references and program information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Manages and Organizes Information Oral Communication Technical Competence Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
