Communicate on a regular basis with the charge nurse regarding observations and suggestions of problem areas, resident and employee activities, concerns, needs, conditions, etc.
Observe residents' medical, mental and emotional conditions and communicate changes to appropriate staff. Provide explanation and offer understanding of nursing care to residents and families according to procedures and provide support relating to medical care as appropriate.
Monitors resident rooms for actual or potential safety hazards such as faulty electrical equipment, frayed electrical cords, scatter rugs, etc. and negotiates with the resident/family for replacement or removal. Demonstrates proper body mechanics in assisting residents, physical activities and lifting/moving items. Instructs/reinforces proper technique for residents in safe use of walkers and wheelchairs.
Assist in the admission, orientation discharge and transfer of residents including but not limited to: packing/unpacking belongings, placement of personal belongings, initiating needed work orders, orienting resident to the apartment and unit environment. Obtaining shower and laundry schedule for new residents, assisting with dining room seating and introductions.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

1 year experience as a Licensed Nursing Assistant
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or the equivalent plus a minimum of 6 months full time experience as a nursing assistant in a long-term geriatric setting.
Requires a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm to create an atmosphere conducive to rehabilitation and growth. Proven leadership skills necessary.
Good observation skills are required. The position requires the ability to treat patient information confidentially.
The individual must be well organized and the ability to understand and show compassion to senior adults is essential.
Must be able to communicate (written and verbal) effectively in English with residents, family and staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The majority of time is spent between standing and walking. There is considerable amount of bending, stooping and supporting residents. Must be able to lift weights of 25 pounds, 50 pounds with assistance and the ability to support weights of 100 pounds. Manual dexterity and keen vision are necessary in use of equipment. May be exposed to unpleasant conditions and is at risk of exposure to potentially infectious material as part of the routine job functions.
