Summary:

The licensed occupational therapist enables people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote heal and prevent--or live better with--illness, injury, or disability, while engaging in science-driven, evidence-based practice. The licensed occupational therapists at Riverside are responsible for maintaining the growth of the occupational therapy profession and supporting autonomous practice. Licensed occupational therapists may supervise and be assisted by Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants who are educated and licensed to provide occupational therapist directed and supervised components of interventions. Licensed Occupational therapists provide professional evaluation and treatment, develop Occupational Therapy treatment programs, educate patients, family members, and employees while under the referral and/or authorization of a physician as outlined by all rules and regulations governing Occupational Therapy practice in the State of Illinois.

 

Experience/Education Requirements:

Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.

 

License or Certification Requirements:

Current active or temporary Illinois Licensure to practice Occupational Therapy or ATT letter (authorization to test) issued by Continental Testing or the State of Illinois in the instance of a recent graduate.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Actively participates in designated marketing program (inpatient or outpatient).Communicates effectively (verbal and written) with patients, physicians, referral sources, families and other staff members, including documentation of essential conversations with providers.Confers with physicians and others healthcare providers in discussion of patient's condition and needsDocumentation matches charges upon chart auditing.Effectively supervises support staff (COTA, techs)Ensures self and team compliance with dashboard and quality items.Maintains timely and accurate documentation that meets all compliance standards and contains personalized patient education and plan of care.Makes initial evaluation of patient, formulates and implements plan of care and re-evaluates plan of care as appropriate.Meets the following productivity percentage on Outpatient rehab and acute: less than or equal to 79.99 (NI), 80-81.99 (ME), 82-83.99 (M&SE), greater than 84 (CE).Participate in patient care conferences and makes recommendations for supplies and equipment.Participates in community activities and department activities that promote rehabilitation and wellness.Participates in departmental promotional and marketing activities.Participates in Quality Improvement efforts, e.g., Journal Club, inservices, Magnet.Perform inservices as required by the department of Riverside Medical CenterProvide individual & group teaching to patient's family or other persons for carry-overSupervises OT and/or OTA student affiliatesWorks independently under general supervision.Takes ownership of workload and supports autonomous occupational therapy practice.Supervises OT and/or OTA student affiliatesWorks independently under general supervisionTakes ownership of workload and supports autonomous occupational therapy practiceSatisfactorily complete all required continuing education hours regarding the care of acute stroke patients.

Blood and Body Fluids: Overall, there is a minimal risk of exposure to blood and body fluid. Potential risk would be in the event of patient incontinence and open wounds treated in hydrotherapy. There is also some potential for risk in equipment failure such as a catheter or IV breaking.
TB or Airborne Pathogens: Whatever hazards that may exist in patient rooms. Minimal.
