Posting Number NONAC3464 Job Title Licensed Practical Nurse Position Title Licensed Practical Nurse Position Type Non-Faculty Number of vacancies 2 Salary Commensurate with experience Department Student Health and Wellness Position Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in an ambulatory care setting. Primary responsibilities also include the systematic triage, collection, and assessment of data to provide evidence-based health care for students of the AUCC, in collaboration with the Registered Nurse and multidisciplinary team. The position considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivery of patient-centered care.

The LPN candidate should have a commitment to the mission and vision of Morehouse Healthcare to “provide excellent quality, multidisciplinary healthcare to the community” and that of the AUCC-SHWC to “provide quality health care services to students of the Atlanta University Consortium Center.”

Minimum Qualifications Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Georgia.  BLS certified Must obtain a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certificate (CPR).


Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of LPN experience.


Preferred Qualifications Associate’s Degree Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills.  Skilled in problem solving techniques.  Demonstrated ability to prioritize and be flexible with daily job-related duties. Ability to work effectively with teams and health care professionals across settings. Knowledge of, and familiarity with EMR documentation and electronic communication.  Training in universal precautions and working knowledge of procedures to minimize risk-related to blood borne pathogens.

Description of Job Duty Triage of walk-ins, under supervision of the Registered Nurse or provider and within LPN scope of practice Systematically assesses needs of patients through interview, observation, physical examination, and medical record review Administers nursing care, as appropriate Evaluates and documents patient response to interventions Provides patient education Determines need for appointment, referral, and follow-up                                                                                                                                                                                                           

Documents in the EMR Telephone and online triage (via the nurse line, nurse inbox in EMR, and calls to clinic) Systematically assesses needs of patients through interview and medical record review. Consults with RN and/or provider as appropriate. Checks and responds to messages in nurse inbox on EMR  Provides patient education Determines need for appointment, referral, and follow-up Documents in the EMR
Medication refills Provide direct patient care to designated patients within the Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse Scope of Practice Recording the patient’s health history Performing physical assessments and measuring and documenting vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, pulse, and oxygen saturation Performing wound care including cleaning and bandaging injured areas Nebulizer and other treatments, as ordered by provider   Providing patient education  Collecting and performing lab testing including point of care testing  Obtaining an EKG Contraceptive injection visits

STI treatment visits Assists providers with other visit types, including rooming patients and procedures, as needed Administers IM, oral, rectal and topical medications ordered by provider Reviews immunization schedules, student immunization compliances, and administers required immunizations  Assist with phlebotomy, as needed Evaluates and documents patient response to interventions in the EMR Documents visits in the EMR
Working within the guidelines of policy and procedure requirements, such as health and safety, risk management, and equality and diversity, written by the nurse’s employer

Immunization Requirements It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
