Examples of Work Performed + Provide direct nursing care to patients by performing measures such as ambulating, range of motion, maintaining and monitoring intravenous therapy under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and performing emergency measures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation. + Monitor patient condition by documenting vital signs, observing monitoring equipment, taking blood pressure, noting intake and output, observing patient behavior and asking them questions. + Provide physical comfort to patients through bathing, positioning, massage, administering pain medication as ordered by the physician, providing bedpans, and assisting with meals. + Administer prescribed treatments such as wound, catheter, tracheotomy, colostomy, ileostomy and gastrostomy care. + Assist in the assessment of nursing needs of patients by collecting and recording data on Minimum Data Sheets (MDS) in order to identify problems, symptoms, and physical, behavioral and psychological changes. + Aid in evaluating nursing care provided by documenting and relaying information about noteworthy (positive or negative) staff performance. + Assist Registered Nurses in the development and writing of nursing care plans. + Write nursing orders under the direction of a Registered Nurse. + Assist physicians with diagnostic procedures such as x-rays and laboratory tests, by positioning patients and explaining procedures. + Make immediate decisions in emergencies, summoning assistance as needed. + Assist in educating patients about ordered tests, procedures and medications. + Facilitate resourceful utilization of health care services, equipment and supplies, and identifies problems suitable for referral to the patient representative. + From time to time to work mandated overtime to ensure adequate staffing coverage and maintenance of the safety for residents at all times. This is an unclassified*, at-will position, holding a confidential relation to the department head or elected official. This position requires an open screening and selection process. There is no exam for this unclassified, at-will position. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the department for consideration. Eligible List: The names of all applicants who pass the examination/screening process, and file a properly completed application, shall be placed on the eligible list for employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse. This list will be certified to the appointing authority, which may use this list to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for one month or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been posted and their rank on the list. The department may choose to interview any candidate on the eligible list. Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.
