How you make a difference

The Psychiatric Technician performs technical and manual tasks related to patient care under the direction of the Regional Mental Health Director, Health Services Administrator, or higher licensed medical professional. The job duties include providing direct care, support, and assistance to patients with mental illnesses or behavioral disorders, as well as assisting with therapeutic activities, medication management, and crisis intervention. The Psychiatric Technician ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. 



Key Responsibilities Collects basic data and contributes to the evaluation of individualized interventions for mental health patients in accordance with their care or treatment plan. Provides direct patient care, including basic nursing services, medication administration, communication skills for patient care and education, and contributing to self-care teaching plans. Maintains communication with Psych RN, LCSW/LMFT, MD/psychiatrist, or NP/PA regarding patients' mental health needs while maintaining confidentiality. Transcribes doctor's orders, assists with program admission and discharge paperwork, and manages and organizes mental health clinical documentation and records. Assists with electronic data input and data gathering, continuity of care, discharge planning, attendance in program meetings, and gathering persons served identification and social information. 

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

High school and specialized training for licensing/certification(s)

Experience

1-3 years post-licensure experience requiredBasic knowledge of all psychotropic medications being dispensedCorrectional mental health experience is preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Current (and must maintain) unrestricted LPT license, certification or registration in state of practiceCurrent (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
