Job Summary:
The Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine (CBEAM) is looking for a motivated Veterinary Technician to add to our growing team of nineteen veterinarians and about forty support staff! We are a 24/7 emergency and primary care veterinary hospital for exotics–we provide compassionate and expert care for all species of non-traditional pets located near Seattle, WA. This requires specialized treatments, diagnostic protocols, state-of-the-art equipment, and facilities designed for these species. Our doctors' advanced training in exotic animal medicine make them uniquely qualified to offer wellness, emergency, and critical care for avian and exotic pets. Key ResponsibilitiesObtain and document patient histories accuratelyCollect and process laboratory samples, including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology, to support diagnostics and treatmentAdminister medications, vaccines, fluids, and treatments as prescribed by veterinariansMonitor and administer anesthesia under veterinary supervisionProvide specialized nursing care for injured or critically ill animalsPrepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgical proceduresEnsure monitoring and support equipment (anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes, breathing apparatus) is properly maintained and in working orderAssist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using advanced imaging and diagnostic equipment (electrocardiographic, radiographic, ultrasonographic)Capture and process radiographsEducate and communicate with pet owners regarding treatment plans and post-care instructionsSupport client intake, check-out, and financial transactions as neededProvide guidance on preventative healthcare, including vaccinations, medications, and wellness plansEducate clients on available products, including prescription diets and supplementsAssist with inventory management of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and suppliesMaintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and treatment areas to uphold hospital standardsEnsure compliance with federal and state regulations, including OSHA and DEA guidelinesCommunicate regulatory concerns to the Veterinary Hospital Manager or Hospital Administrator as neededFoster a collaborative team environment that supports hospital values and patient carePerform other duties as assignedQualifications
Required:Active WA State Veterinary Technician LicenseAbility to commute reliably to the hospital locationAbility to stand for extended periods and navigate stairsAbility to lift up to 40 lbsStrong verbal and written communication skillsLegal authorization to work in the United StatesHigh school diploma or GEDPreferred:1+ year of experience as a Veterinary TechnicianPrevious experience in an exotic veterinary clinicFamiliarity with AVImark practice management softwareSchedule:3x12-hour shifts/week or 3x13-hour shiftsFull-time OvernightOpen availability preferred (one weekend day required)Compensation: $28-33/hour DOEPerks & Professional Development:Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs):$1,000 annual Continuing Education (CE) budget40 paid CE hours to fulfill licensing requirementsMentorship from our Lead LVT, a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS), for those pursuing their VTSVeterinary Assistants (VAs):Support for professional growth through the Penn Foster program, with partial tuition sponsorship (employment agreement required)Additional Benefits for All Positions:Overnight shift differential: $1.25/hourChampion & Ambassador opportunities: Additional compensation for specialized roles and responsibilitiesBenefits:Medical, Vision, Dental Insurance (Full-Time Employees)Paid Time OffQuarterly Bonus PayEmployee Pet DiscountsEmployee Assistance Program401K Plan (Full-Time Employees)Uniform Stipend
