Make pet care your purpose The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) is responsible for maintaining excellent patient care and operational productivity by helping the Veterinarian leverage their time and efforts to meet the needs of their clients and patients. The Licensed Veterinary Technician works to relieve the Veterinarian from technical work and administrative detail to achieve greater levels of efficiency in daily practice. Licensed Veterinary Technicians help facilitate and streamline communication from the operating room to the front office staff and most importantly, the client. Essential qualifications: + At least 18 years of age at the time of hire + At least 1 year of veterinary industry experience + Holds valid Virginia State License as Licensed Veterinary Technician (proof of licensure is required) + Understanding and ability to properly, and safely, restrain animals + Knowledgeable on veterinary medical terminology and medication A day in the life: + Assists the Veterinarian in medical, surgical, and dental cases, including facilitating client communication and education pre and post op. Induce, maintain, and monitor general anesthesia and sedation. + Supervise unlicensed team members in day-to-day activities including set up, assisting in, and breaking down of surgical / dental procedures, filling prescriptions, client communication, patient restraint, sample handling for labs. + Under direct supervision of a Veterinarian, the Licensed Veterinary Technician may: suture to close existing surgical skin incisions and skin lacerations, induce anesthesia, administer rabies vaccine, simple dental extractions of single rooted or sectioned teeth without flaps, run CPR codes, controlled substance handling and administration, IVC placement and venipuncture, among other indirect supervision regulations.
