Purpose The LIDAR Analyst is directly involved in the production of LIDAR data (point cloud processing, classification, reporting standards, feature extraction and calibration) to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations. Analysts are also responsible for reporting, providing feedback to LIDAR Techs, and supporting Project Management’s client relations activities. Responsibilities Data Processing and Management: Trajectory Processing: Carry out trajectory processing for airborne LIDAR missions to ensure precise foundational data. Project Setup: Execute project setups, including the integration of boundaries, tile indexing, and macro catalogs for streamlined project execution. Data Ingestion: Ingest and catalog field-collected data, ensuring proper organization and accessibility for analysis and processing. Quality Control and Assurance: Level 1 QC Routines: Initiate and review Level 1 quality control routines, maintaining high standards of data integrity. Project Adjustment: Perform both relative and absolute project adjustments to ensure the accuracy of spatial data. LAS File Management: Edit and clean base LAS files to generate fully classified LAS files, ensuring data meets classification standards. Quality Measures Implementation: Implement quality control measures, including accuracy checks and classification validations, to uphold data precision. Technical Operations and Support: Macro Development: Create and modify macros tailored to project-specific requirements, enhancing processing efficiency. Sensor Calibration: Generate instrument files necessary for proper calibration of sensors, ensuring accurate data collection. Client Support: Provide technical insights to Project Management upon project awards, facilitating informed decision-making and client satisfaction. Project Optimization and Compliance: Hydrological Feature Extraction: Extract hydrological features from LAS files, contributing to detailed environmental analysis. Process Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot automation issues and create support tickets when necessary to resolve technical failures promptly. Quality Standards Adherence: Ensure all work complies with quality standards for first-time client acceptance and punctual final delivery. Policy and Procedure Enhancement: ISO Work Instructions: Review and propose revisions to ISO Work Instructions, ensuring procedures are up-to-date and compliant with industry standards. Peer Review: Perform peer reviews and provide constructive feedback to LIDAR Technicians, fostering a collaborative and improvement-oriented environment. Strategic Improvement and Reporting: Solutions Identification: Identify and recommend alternative solutions for complex problem-solving, contributing to continuous improvement. Status Reporting: Maintain up-to-date status reporting and tracking for all projects, ensuring transparency and project progression monitoring. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences, or related field (will accept commensurate combination of education and experience). 3+ years’ airborne LIDAR production, classification, and editing experience. Proficiency with PosPac and other airborne processing software and techniques. Proficiency with mapping software including TerraSolid and Microstation. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience analyzing complex problems and recommending solutions. Strong detail orientation and commitment to quality. Experience training technical staff on products and services. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Adaptable to changing schedules and priorities based on client needs. Preferred: 5+ years’ relevant experience. Familiarity with and ability to learn GeoCue, LasTools, and ArcGIS. Physical Demands and Working Environment Visual acuity - normal color vision in low light environment. Able to sit and focus on imagery on a computer monitor for long periods of time. Able to occasionally lift 50 pounds from floor to waist height. Manual dexterity as needed to use accepted tools of management, i.e., computers, computer monitors, mouse, keyboard. Low light working conditions.
