Purpose The LIDAR Product Leader is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on LIDAR data production (point cloud processing, classification, reporting standards, feature extraction and calibration) and has responsibility and ownership of management of LIDAR projects including defining requirements, assigning tasks and resources, and solving complex issues to ensure that quality levels and deadlines are met and products meet or exceed customer expectations. This position is responsible for keeping ISO processes and work instructions current and training all team members to understand and comply with them. Responsibilities Leadership and Direction Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance. Position may include direct supervisory responsibility of staff to include hiring decisions, direction and delegation of work assignments, performance and evaluation, training and development, employee relations and disciplinary issues, compensation, and termination decisions. Provide oversight and direction for one or more specific business processes or functions. Staff Management & Training: Direct and organize the workload of technical staff, setting clear priorities and ensuring efficient workflow. Provide coaching and training to bolster staff proficiency and process adherence. Assist with onboarding of new hires, facilitating a smooth integration into the team. Champion technical staff development through ongoing education and skill enhancement opportunities. At the Operational and Company Level Business Support & Client Relations: Offer technical support to Marketing and Business Development teams for crafting compelling proposals and engaging client presentations. Represent the organization at conferences, showcasing technical capabilities and industry leadership. Foster client relationships by understanding their needs and ensuring project outcomes exceed expectations. Communication & Collaboration: Engage in daily interactions with technical staff, providing clear direction and feedback. Liaise with various departments to maintain a cohesive workflow and unified company vision. Act as a technical liaison, communicating complex LIDAR concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a comprehensible manner. Compliance & Standards Adherence: Ensure all processes meet established ISO standards, leading to consistent, high-quality outputs. Spearhead the revision and dissemination of ISO compliance guidelines amongst technical staff. Do the Work Project Management & Development: Develop and execute detailed project plans, ensuring timely deliverables and adherence to schedules. Oversee trajectory processing for airborne LIDAR missions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Implement Level 1 QC routines to maintain high data quality standards. Adjust projects both relatively and absolutely to align with client specifications and project requirements. Organize project setups, integrating project boundaries, tiling strategies, and macro catalogs effectively. Customize macros and project-specific tools to enhance project output and meet unique client demands. Technical Leadership & Quality Control: Conduct thorough peer reviews to guarantee project accuracy and reliability. Manage LAS file activities, ensuring proper handling, processing, and storage. Enforce quality standards to achieve first-time client acceptance, minimizing revisions and maximizing client satisfaction. Review and revise ISO procedures, training technical staff to ensure full compliance. Proactively identify and troubleshoot complex technical issues, providing viable alternative solutions. Innovation & Technical Advancement: Collaborate with R&D to pilot and implement new technical advancements, ensuring the organization stays at the forefront of LIDAR technology. Remain updated with the latest LIDAR innovations, attending relevant training sessions and seminars to maintain and enhance technical expertise. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Geography or Geospatial field or an equivalent combination of college coursework and work experience. Five or more (5+) years’ experience with LIDAR data production and quality control. Three or more (3+) years’ experience performing calibrations and relative alignment. Technical knowledge of ArcGIS. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Able to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Advanced use of TerraSolid, LasTools and StripAlign applications. Knowledge of ISO processes. Experience with CAD software such as MicroStation CONNECT and AutoCAD. Knowledge of flight or aerial acquisition industry. Must hold a valid state driver’s license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check. Physical Demands and Working Environment Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic. Mobility around an office environment. Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasional local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business. Visual acuity – ability to distinguish full color spectrum and 3-D Stereo vision. The ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Able to sit and focus on imagery on a computer monitor for long periods of time. Low light working conditions. Manual dexterity as needed to use accepted tools of management, i.e., computers, computer monitors, mouse, keyboard.
