MH: Security- (Full Time, Varied Shifts) - 

Job Summary: The Lieutenant works under the supervision of the Director of Security.  Performs security service duties through professional and positive interaction with the public, students, employees and administrators.  Responds to a variety of calls; provides assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations.  Investigates and documents (both electronically and written) safety hazards, incidents and criminal activities.  Responsible for patrol of designated areas to insure the protection of the public, students, employees and property of the LLUH organization.  Is accountable to the department's chain of command for initiative, judgment and general competence exhibited in the performance of assignments, calls for service and day-to-day general duties.  Supervises the day-to-day operations and scheduling of the department and provides training, direction and overall management to all Security employees.  Acts as a liaison to other LLUH departments as well as local and federal law enforcement agencies providing support, information and forensic evidence as requested.  In the absences of the Director, the Lieutenant will assume responsibilities of the Director as assigned.  Provides direction and support as needed in emergency situations.  Performs the physical and environmental demands as outlined in the job description, policies and procedures.  Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred.  Minimum eight years progressive service as a Security Officer in a medical center or university environment required or previous P.O.S.T.  Certification, or retired law enforcement officer with a minimum of eight years of service required.  Minimum ten years general security experience accepted in lieu of medical center / university requirement.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to perform job duties while wearing necessary equipment and personal protective gear.  Able to read, write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications: Valid Driver's License required at time of hire. California Department of Consumer Affairs Guard Card (prior to employment start date), Baton certification, chemical agents, PC 832, and Basic Life Support (BLS)  or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
