The New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences invites applicants for an in-person part-time, non-exempt employee position as a Life Sciences Laboratory Technician to begin in January 2025. The individual is responsible for maintaining the anatomy and physiology laboratory space and preparing laboratory activities on the Iona University Bronxville campus. Responsibilities include working collaboratively with the lead instructor of the A&P course to determine daily/weekly/semester responsibilities, including but not limited to; assisting in the preparation of, maintenance of all A&P laboratory equipment (models, chemicals, specimens, etc.) classroom sessions, open lab sessions, and the storage room; oversight of lab hours for undergraduate A&P students, maintaining an active inventory and creating purchase orders for the laboratory.
Employees with previous experience and/or expertise in laboratory sciences, anatomy and physiology laboratory, biological and physiological sciences, and dissection, or an interest in assisting with laboratory instruction are encouraged to apply. Undergraduate and graduate school experience is acceptable. Position will begin on January 15, 2025.
Responsibilities include:
Adhere to laboratory policies and procedures while performing job functions Able to follow instructions to set up laboratory activities including in the preparation of solutions needed for labs Utilizes safe lab practices and maintain a clean and organized working environment and facility standards Develop lists for placing needed supplies, management of biological specimen, chemical management, and assist in laboratory activities if necessary Function as a contributing and active member of the laboratory team Be accountable for achieving personal and departmental standards and goals Perform duties in the laboratory space, such as but not limited to, preparation for student laboratory sessions, clean-up of student laboratory sessions, opening the lab for study time “open lab”, keeping an active inventory, producing a supply order, putting lab items away, keeping inventory organized and laboratory spaces clean Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and ethical behavior. Demonstrate flexibility in accommodating changing scheduling requirements. Demonstrate appreciation and respect for Iona University, its Mission, and the heritage of the Christian Brothers, as well as the ability to establish and nurture strong collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
